From the New York Times: “Rethinking the Country Life as Energy Costs Rise”

More than three-fourths of prospective home buyers are now more inclined to live in an urban area because of fuel prices, according to a recent survey of 903 real estate agents with Coldwell Banker, the national brokerage firm. ” This New York Times piece discusses how energy prices are increasing property values in urban centers even as property deflates in suburban and rural areas.

Downtown Durham Farmers Market to Open on Wednesdays through Labor Day

Good news for the neighborhood: The Durham Farmers’ Market will now be open on Wednesday afternoons as well as Saturday mornings!  Starting this Wednesday, May 7th, the market will be open from 3:30-6:30pm, every Wednesday through the end of September.  The market will offer a wide variety of produce and fruits, antibiotic and hormone free meats, free range eggs, artisan cheeses, cut flowers, fresh baked goods, preserves, handmade soaps and fine crafts. All items sold at the market are locally produced within 70 miles of Durham.  Sales begin at 3:30 with the opening bell.  To celebrate the grand opening of the Wednesday market, this week, Shane Ingram, chef and owner of Four Square Restaurant will be cooking fresh salsas and chutneys using ingredients from the market.
